Trust through Tough Stuff

Read Genesis 44:1 through 46:4 Matthew 12:22–37

Talk about bad things happening to good people! Besides being sold into slavery, Joseph was thrown into prison for not having sex with his boss’s wife, and then he was forgotten about by an associate who promised to help him. If anyone had a reason to question, “Why me, God? I didn’t do anything wrong!” it was Joseph.

But instead of whining about his life, Joseph apparently maintained his faith and a good attitude. He couldn’t have found favor with men without having a good attitude. And he couldn’t have said the following to his brothers if he had anger and bitterness in his heart.

“So then, it was not you who sent me here, but God. He made me father to Pharaoh, lord of his entire household and ruler of all Egypt” (Genesis 45:8).

Sometimes when Christians hit the tough stuff, they wonder why. They want answers now, but sometimes there are no answers. It may be years before people see how bad circumstances have turned into the “good” God had planned.

Prayer Suggestion: Father, help me trust You, no matter what.
